Mark Osowski enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Warriors in 2001-02 after four successful seasons as a member of the Charlotte Hornets coaching staff. Osowski's responsibilities on the Warriors coaching staff range from game preparation, breakdown and edit of opponent's game film, preparing scouting reports for upcoming opponents and giving individual instruction to players. Along with Phil Hubbard, Osowski also coaches the Warriors entry in the Summer Pro League each yearin Los Angeles. Osowski's position with the Warriors is a familiar one, since he has been reunited with Dave Cowens, whom he entered the NBA coaching ranks with in 1996. Cowens and Osowski have partnered for over 15 years, beginning when the young coaching hopeful began working at the "Dave Cowens Basketball School" and "Centered," a camp that specializes in big man instruction. The Cowens/Osowski tandem has produced some solid results, including two 50-plus win seasons in Charlotte (1996-97 and 1997-98). Following Cowens' resignation from the Hornets staff in 1998, Osowski remained as an assistant under Paul Silas. Osowski's tenure in Charlotte included three trips to the playoffs with the Hornets compiling an overall 180-116 (.608) record. Prior to joining the NBA ranks, Osowski was a fixture among the coaching ranks in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), serving as head coach and assistant coach for the Connecticut Pride during the 1995-96 season. Osowski also coached with the Rapid City Thrillers and Hartford Hellcats (1992-93 through 1994-95). Among his accomplishments in the CBA, Osowski coached three playoff teams and served as an assistant coach at the 1994 CBA All-Star Game in Fort Wayne. From 1991-95, Osowski coached in the Southern California Summer Pro League and was named Coach of the Year in 1992 after leading his team to the summer league championship. His coaching career began in 1986-87 as an assistant coach at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. He then coached basketball and football at Leominster (MA) High School for four seasons. Osowski returned to the college ranks in 1990 as an assistant coach at Division II Assumption College in Worcester, MA. Assumption reached the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship Game twice, losing to New Hampshire in 1990 and national runner-up Bridgeport in 1991. Osowski, born February 14, 1963, in Leominster, MA, is a 1985 graduate ofthe University of Massachusetts, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business communication. As a collegiate player at Dean College, he was a starter and served as team captain for two seasons (1981-83). He received a master's degree in counseling from Fitchburg State College in 1990. In addition to visiting many basketball summer camps around the New England area each year, Osowski also conducts the "Mark Osowski Pro Basketball Camp" for children in Leominster, MA. Mark and his wife, Kristin-Ann, reside in Danville.
